“Achille in Sciro” at the Teatro Real
Next week Ivor Bolton will conduct the premiere of a very special
new production at the Teatro Real Madrid:
275 years after its premiere at the Coliseo del Buen Retiro in Madrid
on the occasion of the engagement of the infanta Maria Teresa Antonia,
daughter of Felipe V, with the dauphin Louis of France, son of Louis XV,
the Teatro Real recovers the opera Achille in Sciro by Francesco Corselli.
This is the first time that thies piece will be publicly presented.
The story: Afraid of a prophecy saying Achille will die in the Trojan War,
his mother, Thetis, sends him to the island Sciro, dressed as a woman.
It all gets complicated when Achille falls in love with the princess Deidamia…
